About Me

My name is Richard Hong (Chinese name Feng), as you can tell from the domain. I’m from a city call Shantou in Guandong province, Southern China. You don’t know where is it? Don’t worry, most of my friends don’t know where is Shantou, so I created MyShantou.net.
I came to UK when I was 18, studied one year English then went to University of Durham. Funny enough, I chose Japanese & Management as my major. Yes, a Chinese boy came all the way to England to study Japanese, as weird as it sounds. In my second year of university I went to Tokyo as an exchange student. It was an awesome city and I’m sure one day I will go again and spend a lot of money there! After returning to UK, I continued to learn a language of an island country in the Far East in an island country in the Far West, until I graduated in 2007. Now I’m working for a financial media company in London, and I’m enjoying my job up to the second you are reading this post.
This blog started while I was in Japan. Originally was to share some photos and travel experiences in Japan, but then I realised I like writing random stuff even when I don’t have photos to share or place to travel, so I continued to write until now. English is not my first language, maybe that’s biggest reason I have this blog – to keep myself thinking and writing in English. But of course, I have Chinese and Japanese blogs as well. Sometimes I also write about China and intercultural topics, because being a Chinese guy outside China for the last few years, I experienced a lots of interesting things. Also I wrote about IT and computer stuffs like many other geeks.
You can contact me for some discounted Japanese or Chinese lessons, or maybe some discussion on rapid development in China. I like to meet interesting people!
