An update for MyShantou.net
Recently I have been putting more efforts into the MyShantou.net. As you may see now, the new template looks more modern and a bit of Web2.0ish style. It’s modified from a theme call Patritoic by wpdesigner.com. I like it a lot so decided to develop the template from it.
MyShantou.net is one of the joy projects that I found it meaningful and important to continue. Since Maggie left Shantou about a month ago, I have been thinking and trying to figure out a way to continue the blog. It’s got a good domain, had been featured in a local TV program, but more importantly, helped a lot of people who were travelling in Shantou and those wanted to return for root seeking as the second or third generation of overseas Shantou people. So I want to keep it going.
Recently I have been in contact with a friend ZhongYuan through Maggie. I have exchanged a few emails and I think his joining with be a great asset to the blog, along with his students in Shantou University. Although it’s not confirmed yet, but I think we are going to have a “news” section to write about local news in English. It’s a good idea, but I only concern is the sensitiveness of the word “news” in China, especially when they are written in English. Positive news is always good, but I’m not sure about the critical one. Personally I think news need to be objective and somehow critical. But if critical comments are touched to politic or government issues then it could be sensitive, even it’s only the surface. Even though, we are still going to have a try. The objective of the MyShantou.net is to show a real Shantou to the world, so I think this is going to be better way to achieve our goal.
